Message from the Dean
SUNY Upstate Medical University has a strong base of scientific researchers and a significant clinical setting, which provides students with an outstanding environment to learn and grow into strong independent scientists.
As a graduate student, you can receive outstanding training in a choice of six different program areas that cover a wide range of basic and translational research. Strengths of the university include: cancer biology; infectious disease; proteomics and genomics; neuroscience; vision; psychiatric genetics; neurodevelopment; structural biology and systems biology.
We provide a first-rate education from mentors dedicated to your intellectual growth and career development. Our faculty researchers continue to capture major grants to support their work, which means a variety of well-funded laboratories to choose from when you select your thesis lab.
Upstate continues to grow; we are expanding and upgrading our substantial research space, including the Upstate Cancer Center and the Neuroscience Research Building (NRB). In addition, the Central New York Biotech Accelerator, a bio-incubator for homegrown start-up companies, and the Cord Blood Bank offer unique research and entrepreneurial opportunities.
All of this takes place at Upstate Medical University, located in a beautiful part of the country. Central New York offers a reasonable cost of living, with cultural and recreational attractions essential to a well-rounded life.
